Options and equipment
Using a larger frame with heavier bearings and mechanicals, larger presses may be built with 220mm diameter rollers, and wider and longer beds.
(A 1000mm x 1750mm press with 220mm rollers and two speed gear box)
Two speed gearboxes offer ratios of 3:1 and 12:1. This has the advantage of retaining good feel for the work in the fast speed and a slow/steady even pull in the low speed without effort.
Model No.3 may be built in a simpler version, incorporating a fabricated lighter stand instead of the cast iron of the standard version. While styling of the hand wheel will change, the mechanicals remain the same. This light version is a little cheaper.
(A 700mm x 1220mm press with simple stand)
Both model No 1 and 3 may be configured with rimless five spoked handwheel and conventional tee handles on the down feed screws. If the machine is to be used in a teaching environment, we consider a rimmed wheel to be safer.

Each press is equipped with interchangeable pressure pads under the feedscrews.

When engaged in high pressure work, intaglio, the standard steel pad is used. If more compliance of the top roller with an irregular surface is required, such as with woodcuts and light pressure relief work, the steel pad may be replaced with a leather or urethane block.
Each press features a specially made involute spur gear set.

which offers smooth feel when working and long trouble free service.
Should the drive system be overloaded, a brass key may shear and be replaced
With a spare from the tool kit.
Lithography; Model No. 3 can easily be converted to a lithographic press. The feed screw housings can be detached by two bolts each side and the top roller assembly lifted out to be replaced by a lifting head.
Model No.2
Features:
- One piece plate steel frames
- Forged feed screw housing, keyed into frame
- Hi-tensile rollers with ground finish
- Laminate bed
- Gear drive
- Micrometer dials
- Built-in lubrication system
Model No.2 is a medium sized bench mounted press made with a roller width up to 700 mm, and a bed length up to 1220mm.
A one piece drop forged feed screw housing uses a unique key system to lock onto the side frames and offers superior strength without relying on bolts (see photo).
The laminate bed will not warp like the old steel plate beds and is lighter and pleasanter to handle and is generally resistant to corrosion and inks.
Specially made high tensile gears offer a ‘direct feel’ and a 4:1 ratio. The engraved micrometer dials mounted on the feed-screw hand-wheels have a rotating bezel, which enables quick and precise control over printing pressure.
The machine comes with a system of lubrication points, and an oiling and maintenance kit, including hex keys. The hand-wheel may be removed to ease transporting.
